Nutrition Education in Action:

Sessions on Food Labelling and Basics of Nutrition in Noonu Atoll

“Travelled to Noonu Atoll Manadhoo Island from 3rd to 7th November 2024 as part of the National Nutrition Programme to promote the Food-Based Dietary Guidelines for Maldives. I had the opportunity to conduct two sessions—one on the basics of nutrition and the other on food label reading.

During the food label reading session, I explained how to check the serving size per 100g, identify low levels of salt, sugar, and saturated fat, and how to interpret the ingredient list.

In the Basics of Nutrition session, I covered how essential nutrients can be grouped, along with their sources and the health benefits they provide.

It was a valuable experience to share key nutrition knowledge with healthcare providers and relevant staff in Noonu Atoll.

This trip was funded by the World Health Organization and jointly organised by Noonu Atoll Hospital and the Health Protection Agency. Check out the Facebook post below.”
